Diet Update: Grip Style

Today is a great day, since I woke up this morning to find out that I am down to 325. It has been a tough hill to climb, but ever since I rededicated myself to a new diet plan its been going great. The diet I was first on was way too tough.

On my old diet I had stopped completely stopped consuming everything that is considered bad for you such as burgers, pizza, and burritos. Trying to stick to only consuming sandwiches and fruit every day was beginning to suck! I really started to think about the long run and how in the world was I going to keep it up.  There was no way it was going to happen.  So I did some research and found that every diet program such as Jenny Craig's and Weight Watchers focuses on one main thing, portion control.

So that's what I am focusing on now.  I'm focusing on how much I eat and better choices instead of staying away from everything that's considered bad for you.  It's all about portion control.  Lets face it, we will not stay on any diet if we are limited to carrots and celery sticks every day. So with that in mind on my new diet, I allow myself to have a burger or some pizza. I try to be smart with my food choices, for example I will order a turkey burger instead of a regular beef burger, and when I order pizza, I get thin crust pizza and have two maybe three slices.

The one diet that worked for me was a diet that I created myself back in 1997. I lost 40 pounds during the summer by just cutting back on thinks like soda, bread, and other greasy food. At that time I was playing basketball every day, but taking all that extra calories out is what really made a difference.

So its another day of the diet, lets see what happens from here on out. The goal is be at least 319 or under by the next diet update.

El Jefe - Diet Update

Good News Everyone!  My diet is going well and I would call it an early success!  Remember, I started out at around 207 and as of today, I am down to 199.

You probably want to know how I have done it.  That seems to be the big question these days.  I am waiting for Richard Simmons to give me a call and ask for some advice.  Maybe even the guys from "The Biggest Loser" will want to know my secret!

Anyway, I made three very simple changes that everyone can do:
1.  I am starting to eat a lot less.  I used to eat till I got full and then tried to finish my food.  I kept going.  Now, If I feel close to full, I stop, even if there is still some lasagna on the plate, I am done.
2.  I am eating my big meal of the day at lunch instead of dinner.  This helps immensely as now I am not going to bed with a lot of food in my stomach that won't get burned off and stored into fat.  This is a big change.
3. I am the Boys soccer coach at my high school.  This year, I am running with the team more often and taking part in alot of the drills.  This is helping me burn calories.  You don't have to be a coach though -- Just get out there and start walking, running, exercising.

I will keep you posted!  El Jefe

Diet update: Grip Style

So its been about a week from my last update and I can honestly say I've feel that I've done pretty well. As I was getting ready to get on that scale I was pretty confident that I would be at the same weight or I lost some pounds. I walk up to the scale and I look down to see that I have lost two more pounds. Now its not much but I did hit my goal of being getting into the 320's by my next update.

OOPS! - I Should Have Stayed Sick

El Jefe here with another diet update.  Not a good one either.  Since I have been feeling better, I have been eating better.  Despite soccer season starting and playing with the team in practice, I have actually gained a couple of pounds over the past two days.  I am at 205 Lbs.  I was going to run today, but we got three inches of snow last night so screw that!  I really need to move back to Texas or maybe Arizona or out to Cali with the Write Guyz so I wouldn't have to worry about snow and cold weather.  This really blows!!!

WTF!?!?!  I have to get serious.  I have to change my attitude and focus on losing weight!   I am thinking of doing something drastic...I just don't know what yet.  When I figure it out, I will let you know.  And don't worry, it will be earth shattering!!!

Diet Update - El Jefe loses Weight!!!

Nothing like being sick to lose weight!  Just a quick diet update.  I got sick last Thursday and still do not feel 100%.  I had actually gained a couple of pounds up until Thursday, but over the last 5 days, I have lost 5 pounds.  Probably because I hate eating when I can't taste anything.  I have bucket-loads of phlegm and mocos going down my throat.  Tonight was the first real mean I have eaten since Friday lunch.  Anyway, I am at about 204 right now.  Well on my way.  I need to get sick more often.

Grip's Diet Update

The last time I gave a update I was still employed. At that time I was 332 and I will admit that I hit a wall that became a mountain. When I got laid off two weeks ago there was a piece of me that was depressed. Things had just started to go my way and then this happen. With that I basically said screw it with the diet. I was not watching what I was eating. Anytime I went out to eat, my favorite thing to say was "And then." So with that I balloon back to 336.

After a good talk with my best bud Husky, I have finally realize that this is a time for change. I time to change the bad habits I have and being lazy is number one on that list. This was something that I never really thought was a huge problem but I can see how it effects everything I do including this diet. So with the process of changing my habits comes a new focus. I have gone to the gym the last 3 days and I have gotten my weight down to 331. I feel great and I have a new outlook on this time of my life. So lets see where this roller coaster ride goes now. Hopefully I will be in the 320's by my next update.

The Diet Has Began

Quick update as this is a very busy week!  With so many things to do, I should burn alot of calories and lose tons of pounds.

Sunday - Last day of the Weekend of Gluttony:  I ate two bowls of cereal for breakfast, a sandwich  for lunch and chicken and noodles for dinner.  Doesn't sound too gluttonous, but I ate a ton of Noodles!  Oh yea, and some left over pizza too.

Monday - The diet begins with my weight at 209 lbs.  I am not going to give daily updates as that would probably bore the hell out of you.  I know you just want only the juicy details!!!

Anyway, we started soccer practice this week.  I am the head boy's soccer coach here at the high school, so I should be pretty active.  I will run and do some of the drills with them.  That will help in my goal to get down to 190 lbs!  YES, YOU READ THAT RIGHT -- 190 LBS!! (Actually, I would love to get down to 180, but I think that is asking too much!)

Watch Out Guys, Here I come!!!

El Jefe - Gluttonous Pre-Diet Weekend Update #2

Yesterday was a little better on the Gluttony front.  A quick update (I promise, I am not going to update everyone each day about my diet when it starts.  Gluttony is funny, dieting is serious business!)

Breakfast - 3 Waffles and a ton of Maple Syrup!!!  I was off to a good start.
Snack - 3 Granola Bars (Peanut Butter if you must know)
Dinner - We ate at Los Laureles in Des Moines.  This was a gluttonous feast!
We (Wife, 2 kids and I) went through 3+ baskets of chips, of which most were eaten by yours truly.  My dinner was a fajita chicken quesadilla with rice and beans.  Then, my daughter did not finish her fries, so I ate the rest of those.  My son left a chicken tender on his plate and offered it to me.  How could I refuse my son?

I am happy to say that this morning, I re-gained that pound I lost on Friday!  HOORAY!!!
Today is the last day of my three-day gluttonous run.  The diet starts on Monday!  Wish me luck!

El Jefe - Gluttonous Pre-Diet Weekend Update

As many of you know, I stated yesterday that I am going on a diet...after a weekend of hard eating!  When, I am happy to inform you that on Friday, The Gluttony began!  Unfortunately (or maybe fortunately depending on your point of view), it did not begin with a bang, but a whimper.  Here is Friday Gluttony menu.

Breakfast:  Woke up late, ate two blueberry granola bars - Not very gluttonous!

Lunch:  Migas - My wife makes awesome migas.  Migas are eggs, corn tortillas, and this time potatoes all mixed up in a skillet.  It sounds gluttonous, but it wasn't.  I only ate a small plate.  :(

Dinner:  Milanesa - Thin steaks.  These were small and I ate three.  Once again, sounds gluttonous but the steaks are almost as thin as paper and about the size of a hamburger.  Three of them does not even equal a T-Bone!

I had no snacks during the day.  WTF!  I have to kick it up a notch and get the gluttony on!!!

PS:  I actually lost a pound yesterday.  I am at 206 this morning.  Oh the Horror!!!

Grip's Sad Diet Update

Well hello there! Its me again with a diet update. I hate to say it but I hit the dreaded diet wall this last couple of days. I decided to have my cheat day this past Friday and it ended up being a couple of cheat days! Not Good. For this let down I am sad to say that I have gain weight. In my last post I was down to 328. I sadly report that I am at 332.

Looking back at everything, I figured that the main reason I had this let down was the fact that I had not gone to the market to get food. There was nothing in the fridge to eat. Therefor I was eating out these last few days. One fast food meal lead to another. When I got on the scale today I was so upset at myself for allowing this to happen.

I know that everyone has their time when they lose focus on a goal or maybe just take a break from things but at the end of it we all have to face the outcome of your actions. So I will get back on track starting tomorrow to get my fat ass back into shape.

Update to come later this week.

Peace

Grip's Diet Update

Hey what up people! Another week has past and time to check in on the diet. Everything is going great. I have yet to hit the "wall" on this diet. I am down to 328. To be back in the 320's in something I didn't think was possible again.

What really has been working for me is the fact that I have completely change my eating habits. I have completely eliminated eating late or late night snacking. I been really trying to eat breakfast so that my lunch and dinners are not heavy meals. Also snacking on a apple or orange between meals have really allowed me to eat so much less at lunch and dinner. Sometimes I just eat a apple for dinner simply because I am not hungry. Also I am a fish now as I drink so much water during the day. I feel like I am drinking close to 2 gallons of water a day. Maybe I'm wrong on the amount but it feels like that.

I will keep you guys informed on my progress as we go on here.

Take care

Chub's Diet Update! Weigh in.

Today the scale was definitely not a friend.  I knew there was nothing but disappointment in stored for me this morning.  I wouldn't say I overate over the weekend, but I will say all my food choices were super unhealthy.  It's very difficult to be in a room full of people stuffing their faces with chips, pizza, and chocolates (Super Bowl Sunday).  Now I must face the consequences of my actions.  Today I weighed in at 381.8, for those of you who remember my last weigh in I was at 380.  Just over the period of a week I've gained about 2 lbs
.
It's seems as if the further along I am on the diet the more unmotivated I become.  I don't seem to have the desire to ever want to exercise, and unhealthy food choices are always on my mind.  I'm not sure what it is.  I use to love going to the gym (well as much as a fat person can).  The high I would get after a great workout was amazing, but now after a workout all I can think about is being glad that its over.  I guess I just have to figure it out.  If not these pounds aren't going anywhere, and some are sure to start coming back.

Grip's Diet Update

Here we go with another update to this diet. Well this past week was the week from hell. I was sick all week with the worst flu that I have ever experience. It was so bad that when I tried to go back to work this past Wednesday, they sent me home. So I was a zombie for a whole week. I didn't do anything but sleep. With the flu, it really threw me off my diet so I wasn't hungry at all and it was tough at times to eat especially with a soar throat.
Currently I am at 335 and looking really forward to this week. Now that I am back from the dead, I feel more motivated to hit the gym. Especially after watching the Super Bowl. The Super Bowl brought back some great memories of playing football in high school. I can remember all the practices and games. I don't want to get into my Al Bundy days to bad but those same memories brought up some questions. I started wondering if I could do those same things now in my current condition. That is a big NO. So that is why the next couple of updates will have some gym stories in them. See you then.

Grip's Diet Update

Whats going on people? I just wanted to give you a quick update on whats going on with me and my diet. No real update here on the diet. I got hit with the worst flu ever since Sunday which has kept me from going to the gym or even really paying attention to what I am eating. This doesn't mean that I am stuffing my face with burgers and pizza but with all the medication, I am not eating right. I will definitely let you guys know what I weigh either tomorrow or after this weekend to see where I am at. Wish me luck so I can get back to shedding this weight off.

Chub Update! The Challenge

We are currently starting week four of the challenge (I use the term challenge loosely) and it seems I am not getting the results I want.  I weighed myself this morning, and I am at 384lbs.  The same weight I've been for the past couple of weeks.  I am not sure how else to motivate myself anymore.  It seems like an uphill battle with no end in sight.  It also doesn't help that neither contestant is taking the competition as seriously as they should.  I don't expect either of us to lose weight like they do on The Biggest Loser, but we've definitely not given it 100%.  Heck I don't think we've given it 60%.

Maybe we need to up the prize a little bit, or get more people involved.  I wonder if Grip and I would try harder if we knew a good cash amount was at the end of the tunnel?  Or, would having more people involved light a fire under our @$$es to get with the program?  Not sure, but something needs to be done.
