Provided by www.2010-super-bowl.com
Every year it seems that Chad Pennington gets a message from above telling him to hang up the cleats and that message has been sent again this year. Pennington tore his anterior cruciate ligament in his knee during a pickup basketball game. Pennington will have surgery on the knee during the first week of April. After the surgery comes the hard part as he will have to go through six to nine months of rehab.

Dez Bryant needs help?

With the recent news of Dez Bryant and his homies being kicked out of the mall everyone begins to wonder if this kid has his head on straight. This question has been following him since he was at Oklahoma St. As you recall in his last year at Oklahoma St, he was suspended for the rest of the season for lying about meeting with Deion Sanders. Sanders serves as a mentor to many NFL players and as continue to help Bryant until this past summer. Sanders received a lot of scrutiny for being involved with Bryant and was really disappointed when he lied about the meeting to the NCAA.

Sanders recently came out to say" he needs help. He needs help. I told the Cowboys from day one to that he needs help. Matter of fact, they have a team in place to help him but you cannot tell a grown man what to do."

Sanders ended the relationship with Bryant when he became concerned with Bryant's negatively and how it was having a effect on the children in Sander's youth program. Sanders also said " I can't allow you to poison other kids that I'm trying to mentor and take to another level."

With all of the incidents that Bryant has been involved him since he's enter the league and with the falling out with Sanders shows where's this guy's head is at. The excuse of him being a young person can only go so far. I know it takes a lot for someone who had a rough childhood and to become a multi millionaire to make good decisions but it does take a man to make the tough decisions. This guy is too good to risk his career away. Hopefully he gets his head on straight and get me some touchdowns on my fantasy football team.

St. Louis Rams News - Josh McDaniels To Wear Multiple Hats

Facts

St. Louis Rams offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels will also be the team's quarterbacks coach.
Team spokesman Ted Crews confirmed McDaniels' dual role status Thursday.
Coach Steve Spagnuolo told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch that it will be good for second-year quarterback Sam Bradford to have just one offensive voice in his ear as he learns McDaniels' system.

My Take

Josh McDaniels was masterful with Jay Cutler in Denver (insert sarcasm), so if I were a Rams fan, I’m supposed to feel better about him coaching the young phenom that is Sam Bradford?

I’m not sure about that one.

Sure, Cutler’s got issues; whereas, Sammy boy appears to be the type of player who would listen, and I can’t deny the fact that Josh McDaniels has been touted as a “good offensive coordinator”. So one could argue that this is a good move based on the aforementioned – right?

Well, I’m not so optimistic. Josh McDaniels was a wild card as coach and the way he handled the Jay Cutler situation, it really left a bad taste in my mouth about him. It wasn’t the fact that Cutler left trust me; I’m a smart enough sports fan to discern between right and wrong. What chapped my hide was the way he went to the media and the things he put in writing a-la newspaper. Definitely something one might expect from a young coach; however, Mike Tomlin was a young coach en-route to his first ever Super Bowl and not once did he cause waves.

That said, one could argue that the management in Denver, coupled with his youth, immaturity, and overall inexperience at the NFL level was not the right fit.  But, if that’s the argument, then I definitely have no faith in Josh McDaniels being teamed up with Spagnuolo in St. Louis based on his checkered past.

Summing It All Up

Josh McDaniels should focus solely on being head coach and being head coach alone. Many coaches have dabbled wearing multiple hats and the outcome has yet to produce a winner (i.e. Super Bowl Champion).  Therefore, this move is a bad move and one of two things will happen:

  1. The Rams will have a sub-par season, Sam Bradford will not have as good a season as he did last year, and tension in the locker room will fester.
  2. The Rams will hire a quarterbacks coach before the season ends (assuming we have a season of course).

Hall of Famer Lawrence Taylor was sentenced to six years probation today after he pleaded guilty to having sex with a underage prostitute, she was 16 years old at the time,  and sexual misconduct back in January. Taylor will also have to register as a sex offender and a hearing will be held on April 12 to see what level of sex offender will be assigned.

The girl who is now 17 years old said that Taylor belonged in jail for taking "something precious" from her. She has denied to this day that she was not a prostitute. Her attorney Gloria Allred did not say whether her client will pursue a lawsuit against Taylor.

If I Were The NFL Commissioner

I have written what I would do if I were the NBA commissioner, the MLB commissioner and the PGA commissioner and it seems as though everyone loved my ideas (except the powers that be in those three organizations -- I am still waiting for you to call me!  Suck it up and admit I am the man for your organizations.)

Anyway, I was thinking about this whole NFL Labor lockout thing and it dawned on me:  "Boss, You should be the NFL Commissioner!"  Why?  Because I have an idea that will solve the labor problem and bring football back to the world (at least to all those who care about football in the world.)

OK, so here is my idea that should win some type of Nobel Prize if they made one for settling labor agreements or brilliant ideas.  Why don't we have the owners and the players take one-third of the profit from the nearly $10 billion that they would make if they play next season.  That is over $3 billion each.  That is a lot of money.  Now the other third ($3.3 billion for those who are math deficient)  could be donated to some type of charity.  There are tons of charities to pick from:  public education needs a boost, boy's and girl's clubs, Cancer research, give a couple million to Japan and other countries in need of aid.  Not only would this help better the world, it would give the NFL a much needed public image boost.  So donate, donate, donate.

They can give to as many charities as they want--I don't care how many as long as I get a nice salary.  I would take a salary of $1 million to be NFL commissioner and donate four-fifths of my salary to charity!  How do you like that!!!  I am so generous!!!

Plaxico Burress - Do you want him?

Courtesy of the Associated Press
As you may have heard that the great state of New York has announced that Plaxico Burress will be released on June 6 for good behavior. If everything works out with the NFL owners and players, Mr Burress is free to sign with any team he would like this coming season. Former players like Antonio Pierce and Michael Strahan have said that Giants should go after Burress.

The former NFL standout was sentence to two years in prison for accidentally shooting himself in the leg at a nightclub. So he has been out of the game for quite some time, but as we have seen from other players like Michael Vick that it may be just a matter of time before he can get back to that All Pro level.

He is 33 years old now I figure it would not take him long to get back into shape. The question is would you want him on your team? Does he have anything left in the tank? I still think he is very talented and still has some great years in him. The only thing I would worry about is once he does sign a contract and a team puts some money in his pocket, will he just give a half ass effort now that he has money again?

NFL Items that, If Bought, Would Lead to a Divorce

The other night, there was nothing on TV and the wife and kids were out of the house.  I was surfing the net and came upon the NFL’s online store.  MAN!  They have a wide variety of stuff for sale.  Some of it interesting and some of it worthless.   I was looking through the items and saw things that I knew would bring about the wrath and ire of my wife if I were to buy them.  That is why I created this Post.  (ALL PHOTOS FROM NFLSTORE.COM)

NFL Items that, If Bought, Would Lead to a Divorce

I am a huge Dallas Cowboys fan.  I used to live in Texas and I have been to 7 or 8 Cowboys games at the old Texas Stadium.  I have a ton of Cowboy's Memorabilla, but the above 5 foot Dallas Cowboys helmet would probably make my wife (and the neighbors) go crazy.  Imagine that on my front lawn!  It probably wouldn't last long anyway because there is a certain Philadelphia Eagles fan in town that has been known to "Take" my Cowboys items withouth asking.  So it would be gone in a week or so.

This one is worse - the inflatable Patriot. Who would put that thing in their front yard?  The thing looks like it could come to life and terrorize the city!

Seriously!  Who would be caught dead wearing this?  An ugly jacket with a bunch of patches on it.  Reminds of something from the 70's.  Or maybe the jackets you had in the 80's with all the pins of different pop groups on them.  And why would you want every team?  I am sorry, but I will never wear a jacket that has anything Green Bay or Washington on it!
Here is a Hat Case.  This one is for the Detroit Lions, but you can get any team on it.  Hat is not included.  I guess if you have a special baseball cap, it is kind of cool.  But the price is what would get me banned from the house.  $109!!!  $109 for a place to put your stupid cap!  Give me a simple little hook for $2 and I will drill it into the wall.
Fatheads!  If any man would start decorating their houses with Fatheads all over the place, I can guarantee you will be getting divorce papers in the mail within a week.  Fatheads are stupid (unless it is a Fathead of yours truly, EL JEFE).  I guess I could see kids putting them up in their rooms, but a grown adult decorating the house with them?  Not only is a divorce in the works, but you need to see a shrink.

Once again, I love the Cowboys but this is taking it a little too far!  A Dallas Cowboys  tree face ornament? I think in addition to getting a divorce, everyone in the neighborhood would probably hunt me down for this one.  Do people actually buy these things?

If you can think of any other tacky, divorce-causing NFL gifts, leave a comment.

You're too smart to play Football?

"Alabama's QB Greg McElroy scored a 48 out of a possible 50 on the Wonderlic test," as I read that headline I thought, cool nice to see there are still intelligent athletes.

But, after completely reading the article I was a bit dumbfounded by how a high score could potentially be perceived as a bad thing in the NFL......

Mike Florio explains:

That said, scoring too high can be as much of a problem as scoring too low.  Football coaches want to command the locker room. Being smarter than the individual players makes that easier. Having a guy in the locker room who may be smarter than every member of the coaching staff can be viewed as a problem — or at a minimum as a threat to the egos of the men who hope to be able when necessary to outsmart the players, especially when trying in some way to manipulate them.

This is pretty absurd if you ask me.  Sad, really.  To think that coaches out there only want people dumber than them is pretty jaw dropping.  I hope it all works out for Greg.

Top Earning Team, Breaks Records!

I know, everyone would assume it's the Yankees, right?  We all know they are all about buying championships like nobodies business, so we assume the team's earnings are in abundance.  The Yankees reported an earning of $441 million last year, and they are not even close to being the top earning team.  The NFL's top earning team last year was the Cowgirls, I mean Cowboys, with a reported earnings of $420 million last year, still not close.

So what team/players are getting paid like nobodies business, and at the same time making cheddar for the organization?   It's none other than a Soccer Team, Real Madrid.  Real Madrid reported earnings of $592 million last year.  I knew Cristiano Ronaldo was getting paid but Jeez.

Here's the full Football Money League Top 20

1. Real Madrid -- $592 million
2. Barcelona -- $537 million
3. Manchester United -- $472 million
4. Bayern Munich -- $436 million
5. Arsenal -- $370 million
6. Chelsea -- $345 million
7. AC Milan -- $318 million
8. Liverpool -- $308 million
9. Inter Milan -- $303 million
10. Juventus -- $277 million
11. Manchester City -- $206 million
12. Tottenham Hotspur -- $198 million
13. Hamburger SV -- $197 million
14. Lyon -- $197 million
15. Marseille -- $190 million
16. Schalke 04 -- $189 million
17. Atletico Madrid -- $168 million
18. Roma -- $166 million
19. Stuttgart -- $155 million
20. Aston Villa -- $148 million

Here's the craziest part of it all.  After reporting all those earnings only one team on the list of 20 reported a profit last year!  #5 Arsenal, #2 on the list, Barcelona, had to take out loans in order to pay out  player's wages.  This is just crazy to me.  Why would you conduct a business like this?  If you are losing so much money every year then how do these teams keep their organization running?  It obviously isn't easy because out of the 20 teams only 1 reported profits.  I guess we have to assume that a lot of them are at least breaking even.  No wonder Dodger Stadium keeps charging me $100 for a beer!

Don't You Want To Play At Farmer's Field?

Yesterday AEG Chief Tim Leiweke, who is the main person that is pushing to get an NFL team back into Los Angeles, announced that they have agreed to a huge deal with Farmer's Insurance for the naming rights to the future NFL stadium. The stadium is to be called Farmer's Field and the proposed site to be built will be next to The Staples Center.

Many attempts have been made to bring a NFL team to Los Angeles but Mr Leiweke has been the most successful. Now there are still many questions as who will be that team that moves to Los Angeles or how some of the features or promises in the stadium proposals will be accomplished, but  today's  announcement is a huge indictor that the reality of a NFL team in Los Angeles will become true.

Now the stadium cannot be built until a NFL team has agreed to move to Los Angeles and no one has mentioned which teams have been contacted. At the announcement, Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa did mentioned that he did have a secret meeting with NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell recently to discuss the NFL to Los Angeles proposal and has spoken to at least one league owner about the move. Mayor Villaraigosa hinted that the pictures that were shown in a video montage at the announcement included one of those interested teams. The video montage showed some highlights of Adrian Peterson of the Minnesota Vikings and the fans of the San Diego Chargers. Also it is known that Jacksonville Jaguars, St. Louis Rams, Buffalo Bills, San Francisco 49ers, and the Oakland Raiders may be looking for new homes.

I myself don't put too much thought into this as it seems to be a never ending story. Then again, they are making some significant moves to bring a team to L.A. Let's see what happens. Hopefully this story has a happy ending.
