Here they come!!!

Manchester United defeated their rival Chelsea 2-1. Now the real season hasn't started yet but if these games are any indication, we are going to have a team that could take every major cup and win our league.

My goal is to bring soccer to the forefront this year. Most Americans don't follow this sport, but once you dive into and really experience it I know you will love it as I do.

In the coming months I will bring you trick shots and even explain some of the rules to the game, so it makes it more memorable.

Go Red Devils!!!!

Stay tuned for more on soccer and what it means to the world!!!

College Basketball Legacy Comes to an End (Video)

One of the best college basketball players career ended yesterday in a loss in the Final Four. What is considered an upset, Notre Dame beat Connecticut 72-63 to advance to the championship game. Even though Notre Dame was seeded as the number two team in their bracket, it is an upset given with what Connecticut has been able to accomplish while Maya Moore was there.

Butler vs UConn Preview (video)

Actual! Factual!

It is actual and it is factual, Women's Basketball is on and the Final Four begins today:

Stanford vs. Texas A&M
UCONN vs. Notre Dame

To be noted, should both #1 seeds advance (Stanford and UCONN) and play each other, the last time UCONN lost in a title game - it was against Stanford.

Just saying - for those who actually care about Women's Basketball, to those 3 people out there, this is an important fact to be noted.

Happy & Sad Day To Be A Dodger Fan

When the Los Angeles Dodgers are winning, I am a proud Dodger fan.

When the Los Angeles Dodgers are losing, I still am a proud Dodger fan.

When Dodger Stadium is filled with people, I am an extremely proud Dodger fan.

However, when Dodger fans take their “fan-ness” too far, I am not proud to be a Dodger fan.

It seems that every year, every time the San Francisco Giants play the Los Angeles Dodgers, I wake up the next day and hear/read about somebody getting stabbed, shot, or injured. I mean, last I checked, this is baseball right? This is a Dodger game, not a Los Angeles Raiders game at the Coliseum, right? I’m not so sure anymore and it’s sad, because baseball has long been “America’s Past Time Sport”, and although in recent years, it would appear that the NFL has taken that crown, baseball is the one sport that has remained true (despite the steroid era) and pure to how the inventors of the sport had intended it to be played – more so than any other sport. Baseball was the one sport you can take your young daughter/son to, where upon their first bite into a dodger dog, first spill of nacho cheese onto their jersey, and where their first bite into those salty dodger peanuts were nothing short of an infusion of dodger blue into their blood stream – almost intravenously at that.

Baseball at Dodger Stadium should be synonymous with family fun, not homicide and chaos.

Unfortunately though, as much as I love Dodger fans, I don’t love those who take it too far as you will read in the article below:

It’s gotten to the point now, where fans of the opposing team do not want to attend the games out of fear for their lives and their family’s lives as well. It’s too bad and it’s really sad that fans don’t understand that having this “gang-like” pride ultimately hurts the team they love and hold so near and dear to their hearts (see Chub Johnson who has the L.A. logo tatted on his leg). When fans of the opposing teams cannot attend the games, ticket sales suffer and when that happens, the team is unable to buy the players needed to help the Dodgers win another Championship. That is just one major way being so barbaric hurts the team I love so much. It makes me angry really.

So yes, the “Boys In Blue” got a great win to start the season last night. It was close, it was awesome, and Kershaw was amazing. But on a night where the loyal Dodger fans have reason to cheer and furthermore, on a night when the people of Los Angeles were given multiple reasons to cheer as the Los Angeles Lakers also won in great fashion – for me, unfortunately it was a night that two San Francisco Fans had the worst experience of their lives. As if it wasn’t bad enough their team lost, they also almost lost their lives and for what?
Pride?

Nah, true Dodger pride is winning and showing pride with dignity and class. It’s the people who do this that truly know what being a Dodger fan is all about, and it’s these people that make me proud to be a Dodger fan.

John Daly's Ex-Wife Tells All

Photo from Amazon.com
John Daly's ex-wife #4, Sherrie Daly has a new Tell-All book coming out.  I am sure the PGA would love to block it as it has some pretty bad things to say about the tour and the players.  Last week,  she promoted her sure-to-be sordid biography by sitting down and chatting with Golf Digest’s Alex Myers. In the book, Teed Off: My Life As A Player’s Wife On The PGA Tour (Teed Off? get it?), Sherrie Daly regales us with such great little stories about her ex, including one about how Daly once expressed his dissatisfaction with a paint job performed in their home.
From Golf Digest
“So in front of everyone, in front of his own mother, John whipped it out and started peeing all over the wall,” she writes.
Perhaps one story sums up how unpredictable living with John Daly could be. According to Sherrie, after being in Germany, the couple returned to their Arkansas house with John’s mother, Lou, and some neighbors to see the progress interior decorators were making on some changes she wanted. When they discovered the walls of the kitchen had been painted in the wrong color, John did the unthinkable.
Nice John.  Real classy!  Did you want to be a golfer or a drugged out Rock Star?  Or maybe the role model for Charlie Sheen.

She also talks about all the sex and strippers that are on the PGA tour, servicing the players wherever they go.  In fact, she talks of one tour stop where a prostitute would take players into the bushes for a quickie while waiting to tee-off for the 17th hole.  To me, it sounds like the PGA tour was a Country Club version of the NBA!

Anyway, Sherrie Daly writing a book about all of this to me seems like a last gasp to make a profit off her rocky marriage to John.  They have been divorced almost 2 years I think, so her name recognition is fading.  With stories like she has in the book, I am sure alot of people are going to want to read it.  My question is:  Are the tawdry tales true or did she stretch the truth?  It will be interesting to see how the PGA tour and other golfers react.

My Letter to Tennis

Dear Tennis,

Seriously - What is your deal? What makes you so special?  Do you really think you are "All That" by using all those words like "love" and deuce in your scores. What is wrong with a number score?  Is that too "plain" for you?  You are too good for numbers or what?  Do you have some kind of personal vendetta against 5-0, or "its all tied up" or "we have no score". Come on - "deuce"? I hate to inform you tennis, but this is a game with a ball, which should use the number system, not some kind of card game -- "Deuce!"  Really!

You think you are cool because your female players wear skirts, don't you?  Big deal!  They also grunt like hogs on an Iowa Pig farm.  And what about your fans, er..., "Spectators" as you call them.   I am sorry, but Tennis games (oops, sorry...matches) are pure boredom!  No rowdiness, no waves in the crowd, no chants.  BORING!!!  What do Tennis fans do?  They do that polite, light applause so as not to cause a major disturbance and upset the players.  Forget that.  Give me painted faces, rowdy fans and the need for extra security.  Now that is a sporting event!

And to make matters worse, my kids are playing Wii sports resort and they have started saying things such as deuce, love and advantage.  Please!  What are you doing?  I am trying to teach my children about "real" sports and now you come and interject yourself in my family game nights!  PLEASE!  Could you please just disappear.  Either that or get about 20 new players who have the personality of John McEnroe and Jimmy Connors.  They at least had some pizzazz.  Until that day, you have been relegated to the position of "Hobbies that do not qualify as sports."

Good Day (As I make a loud Grunt in front of my computer).

A Dead Corpse Watches a Soccer Game...

foto from Colombia Reports
Now this is a little crazy, even for Colombian soccer.  I mean taking a dead body to a soccer game!!!!  WOW!!!

"Friends brought a coffin with the body of a 17-year-old boy into a soccer match Sunday between Cucuta Deportivo and Envigado," according to Colombia Reports. Christopher Jacome was a huge fan of Cucuta.  He lived for the team.  The young man was gunned down Saturday in a local park while playing soccer.  To honor his love of soccer and Cucuta, his friends took his body from the funeral home after the wake and brought it into General Santander Stadium for the game. "They don't let in the fanatics, but yes, a cadaver. This is the only part of the world where this has happened," Julio Rivera, medic for Cucuta, told the paper. Stadium officials say they will hold a meeting to find out who allowed the dead body to be brought to the match."

Once again - WOW!!!  Imagine if you just happened to be standing next to the group of friends with the coffin and Cucuta scores a goal.  The stadium goes crazy and everyone is jumping and out drops the body right on top of you!  That would freak me out for a good long time.  According to the paper, at one point they were passing his coffin around the stands.  It was like "Cadaver surfing."  This really reminds me of the movie "Weekend at Bernie's," which is referenced in the article so I am not the first to think of it.

Only in Colombia I guess...

2014 Winter Olympics Mascots

A few days ago, I wrote a post on here about the Mascots for the 2012 Summer Olympics in London.  Now, it is Russia's turn.  They are hosting the 2014 Winter Olympics and here are the mascots:

Found these “cute” mascots for the 2014 Winter Olympics to be held in Russia. They really are kind of cute, but they don't strike me as "Russian" Enough.  I guess since I remember the tale end of the Cold War, I think of the big tough Russians like Ivan Drago from the Movie Rocky.

My suggestion to the Russian Olympic Federation is to change their mascots.  What about a Mean Polar Bear such as this one:
Or why not just break the norm and have a man as the mascot.  Just have Vladimir Putin be the mascot.  The dude looks tough and he seems pretty cool.  I would buy a "Putin as the Terminator" T-Shirt!

If San Diego St Beats UConn, Is It A Upset?

Provided by Aztec Sports Travel
Since my Bruins are out of the tournament I have to root for a new team. Since I'm from So Cal I feel obligated to root on San Diego St. San Diego St has always been a favorite of mine and it has been exciting to see them do so well this year. After looking at a preview of the upcoming game with the third seeded UConn I was asking myself if San Diego St does win tonight, is it considered an upset? Tonight is the school's most important game ever. This is really consider uncharted waters for this school and team  unlike UConn who has a great history of tournament play and one of the best coaches in the nation. Consider the fact that San Diego St is seeded number 2 in that bracket, they were ranked in the top 5 for most of the year and have one of the most well rounded team in the nation that they should be a favored to win not only tonight but the whole thing.

What do you think?

2012 Summer Olympics WTF?

During the last month or so, Iran has threatened to boycott the 2012 Olympics in London because the symbols look like they spell Zion.  You be the judge:
Photo from www.london2012.com
OK, maybe the numbers 2012 kind of look like Zion, but I am sure it was unintentional.

Who cares?!?!?!  Seriously, the 2012 Olympics have much deeper problems and it seems as though I am the only one who cares!  Check these THINGS out:

Photo from www.london2012.com

Seriously!!!! Check out these two...things!!!  No, this is not something from Yo Gabba Gabba -- These two things are Wenlock and Mandeville, the "official" mascots of the 2012 London Games.
The one-eyed figures named Wenlock and Mandeville were unveiled at an east London school on Wednesday, with London 2012 organisers hoping they will inspire a generation of children while persuading their parents to contribute a share of £15 million the mascots are intended to raise in merchandising revenue.
I wish the Brits good luck in marketing those two. It seems that every Olympic mascot that comes out during the last 16 years or so has been a terrible thing.  I think to myself "They cannot possibly come up with a worse mascot for the next Olympics" and what happens...They prove me wrong.  I can't wait to see the mascot for the next Winter Olympics.  It will probably be a glob of snot or something.

Seriously, this looks like a cross between the Teletubbies and those weird things from Yo Gabba Gabba.  Enough Already!!!  Can we get back to having cuddly animals for mascots???  How many kids want a stuffed Wenlock and Mandeville to cuddle up to at night?

Tennessee Say Good Bye to Bruce Pearl (video)

Sources are reporting that the University of Tennessee has fired men's basketball coach Bruce Pearl. This is coming after a rough season for the coach. Pearl was suspended at the beginning of the season for lying to the NCAA about recruiting violations, his team was booted out of the tournament by Michigan and all of this happen while he was coaching without a contract with the university.

Pearl had to see this coming especially when Tennessee athletic director Mike Hamilton stated that "the jury was still out" on whether Pearl would be back as head coach next season. This statement comes out two days before the Volunteers played Michigan

400lb Man Finishes the LA Marathon!!!

Okay, this dude just blew my motivation to like the highest levels!!
Kelly Gneiting, currently a pro sumo wrestler, completed the Los Angeles Marathon over the weekend at 400lbs!  His accomplishment makes him the heaviest man to ever complete the Los Angeles Marathon!  Gneiting jogged the first 8 miles and walked the remaining 13 miles.

Obviously he took longer than the Marathon allows you to be in the race (you need to average about 13 mins per mile), but he completed the whole thing!

I just think it's amazing and very motivational to hear of individuals like this.

Good Job, Kelly!
