College Basketball Legacy Comes to an End (Video)

One of the best college basketball players career ended yesterday in a loss in the Final Four. What is considered an upset, Notre Dame beat Connecticut 72-63 to advance to the championship game. Even though Notre Dame was seeded as the number two team in their bracket, it is an upset given with what Connecticut has been able to accomplish while Maya Moore was there.



Maya Moore is the top player in Women's College basketball and should be consider one of the best players in history. Her record at Connecticut was 154 wins with only 4 losses. This included the amazing 90 game winning streak which beat out John Wooden's UCLA men's basketball team streak of 88 games. This means that Maya Moore went more than two season without a lose. This was a record that many people including myself that would never be broken. Along with two national Championships, Moore will be leaving UConn as a four time All American and two time National Player of the Year. She has scored 3,036 points in her career which ranks her fourth all time in NCAA Division 1 women's basketball history.

Among her ability to score, her leadership and will to win is what really separates her from any other player. These are attributes that all great players have. These attributes were displayed more than ever this season as the team lost two starters to graduation and one to injury from last years team. Teammate Caroline Doty had this to say about her Moore's leadership, "She doesn't get mad, she gets more intense," She'll clap her hands and say something....You'll see the fire in her eyes."

During the press conference after the lost to Notre Dame, Moore said "Coach Auriemma has taught me so much about the game -- moving, different ways to score. But also how you have to be invested in your teammates, making people feel like they're valuable, encouraging them and giving them confidence to be at their best."

With Moore's ability to play and be a leader at a high level will certainly make her the number one pick in the upcoming WNBA draft. She is a special player that may have not gotten the full recognition that she deserves. With the NBA and men's college basketball shadow, women's basketball is not front page news to many sports fans out there but Moore's play has given the sport more attention and respect. "I feel I've done what I could. And it's cool to have it recognized and appreciated by so many fans, and, I hope, the women's game in general," Moore said. I hope people have fallen in love with the game more because of our team and the competitiveness and heart we play with. I'd like to appreciate the bigger impact."
