Here they come!!!

Manchester United defeated their rival Chelsea 2-1. Now the real season hasn't started yet but if these games are any indication, we are going to have a team that could take every major cup and win our league.

My goal is to bring soccer to the forefront this year. Most Americans don't follow this sport, but once you dive into and really experience it I know you will love it as I do.

In the coming months I will bring you trick shots and even explain some of the rules to the game, so it makes it more memorable.

A Dead Corpse Watches a Soccer Game...

Now this is a little crazy, even for Colombian soccer.  I mean taking a dead body to a soccer game!!!!  WOW!!! 

"Friends brought a coffin with the body of a 17-year-old boy into a soccer match Sunday between Cucuta Deportivo and Envigado," according to Colombia Reports. Christopher Jacome was a huge fan of Cucuta.  He lived for the team.  The young man was gunned down Saturday in a local park while playing soccer.  To honor his love of soccer and Cucuta, his friends took his body from the funeral home after the wake and brought it into General Santander Stadium for the game. "They don't let in the fanatics, but yes, a cadaver. This is the only part of the world where this has happened," Julio Rivera, medic for Cucuta, told the paper. Stadium officials say they will hold a meeting to find out who allowed the dead body to be brought to the match."

Once again - WOW!!!  Imagine if you just happened to be standing next to the group of friends with the coffin and Cucuta scores a goal.  The stadium goes crazy and everyone is jumping and out drops the body right on top of you!  That would freak me out for a good long time.  According to the paper, at one point they were passing his coffin around the stands.  It was like "Cadaver surfing."  This really reminds me of the movie "Weekend at Bernie's," which is referenced in the article so I am not the first to think of it.

THE RED DEVILS ARE COMING!!!

Manchester United will play the Chicago Fire, New England Revolution and Seattle Sounders as part of its preseason tour of the United States.

It was announced Tuesday that the Red Devils will face the Revolution on July 13 at Foxborough, Mass., and meet the Fire on July 23 at Chicago's Soldier Field. It's part of an exhibition tournament known as the World Football Challenge.

They also will play Barcelona on July 30 at the Washington Redskins' stadium. Man United's game against the Sounders, which is not part of the tournament, will be on July 20 in Seattle. The Red Devils also play against the MLS All-Stars on July 27 at Red Bull Arena in Harrison, N.J.


The tour is meant to be a warm up for the regular english permier league.

Top Earning Team, Breaks Records!

I know, everyone would assume it's the Yankees, right?  We all know they are all about buying championships like nobodies business, so we assume the team's earnings are in abundance.  The Yankees reported an earning of $441 million last year, and they are not even close to being the top earning team.  The NFL's top earning team last year was the Cowgirls, I mean Cowboys, with a reported earnings of $420 million last year, still not close. 

So what team/players are getting paid like nobodies business, and at the same time making cheddar for the organization?   It's none other than a Soccer Team, Real Madrid.  Real Madrid reported earnings of $592 million last year.  I knew Cristiano Ronaldo was getting paid but Jeez.

Here's the craziest part of it all.  After reporting all those earnings only one team on the list of 20 reported a profit last year!  #5 Arsenal, #2 on the list, Barcelona, had to take out loans in order to pay out  player's wages.  This is just crazy to me.  Why would you conduct a business like this?  If you are losing so much money every year then how do these teams keep their organization running?  It obviously isn't easy because out of the 20 teams only 1 reported profits.  I guess we have to assume that a lot of them are at least breaking even.  No wonder Dodger Stadium keeps charging me $100 for a beer!

Amazing Soccer Shots!

So, I found a video with international soccer star, Remi Gaillard of France hitting some amazing shots.

It's on the right side of the sports page under a video by Jimmy Kicks.

At first I was like, no way - but then, after closer review, it's not fake. So what I want to know is, how many times did he shoot before he actually made the shots? I'm saying, there's no way anybody is THAT good.

Or, can they be?

USA vs. Egypt Friendly Cancelled

Unfortunately, due to the chaos going on in Cairo and Alexandria, the USA's friendly match against Egypt scheduled for February 9, 2011 has been canceled.

Aside from those who love watching soccer, and while sports tends to often pose as a great diversion from the negative which goes on in our world, diverting the American and Egyptian citizens from harm is what spearheads the decision made by the U.S. Soccer Federation.

The USA is ranked 18th in the world, and had planned on flying a top roster to Egypt for the match. Egypt on the other hand is ranked 10th. The teams last met in the first round of the 2009 Confederations Cup, with the USA winning 3-0, or as they say in soccer - nil.

It's always a bad thing when the things going on in our world and country make the things that otherwise serve as healthy distractions for us come to a screeching halt. Let us pray and hope that the chaos going on in Egypt comes to a safe end soon.
