I watched some of the NBA All-Star Game this weekend, but not all of it. I don't know why, but I just don't get that into the NBA All-Star Game anymore. I remember during the Magic, Bird and Jordan days, I couldn't miss it. Now, it is kind of a "I guess there isn't anything else on so I will watch some of the All-Star Game" mentality.
I actually think that all of the extra stuff surpasses the All-Star Game itself. The Slam Dunk Contest, Celebrity Game, 3-point shooting, skills competition, etc. draws a bigger audience than the game itself. More people are talking about Griffin's dunk over a car today than the All-Star game itself.
I have already written a couple of posts at to what I would do if I were the MLB commissioner and the PGA Golf Commissioner. Now, I have a few idea I would implement if I were the NBA commissioner. This is how I would make the All-Star Game better! See if you agree.

- Let's go old school and have a 1-on-1 contest. Each team enters one player. They have a bracket and go one-on-one with someone from another team. First player with 20 points wins. They then move on to the next round. We would still see some great moves and think of the bragging rights on the court for the rest of the year. Who cares if you can dunk better than someone else - If you can beat everyone in one-on-one, they you are truly the King of Basketball.
- Have a game between Teenage Celebrities Versus retired NBA players. You could have Justin Bieber, Jaden Smith, and a host of other teen celebrity sensations playing against Charles Barkley, Scottie Pippin, Joe Barry Carroll, etc. Give the youngsters some advantages like no shot clock and the little ones can intentionaly foul the old guys and it would be a pretty good game.
- With so many foreign players, have a USA vs. the World All-star game like they used to do in the NHL. I don't think it is a guarantee anymore that the US would win.
- What about a game of just short players (Players 6'3" or shorter) versus players who are 7 feet or more. Would the outside shooting team with the ballhandlers win or the tall guys who would dominate the middle?
- What about a game with 4 baskets on a square court? Just a thought here, but you could have four teams playing each with their own basket. It would be 3 teams against the team with the ball. Whichever team scores the most baskets in their end wins. Imagine a free-for-all as that is what this would be. Pretty entertaining.
- A special all-star game of criminal players versus those who have a clean sheet. This would have to be done in the next few years since more and more NBA players are getting arrested.
