'Melo' Watch Update

What is going on sports fans!
So, the New York Knicks have struck first by having met with Carmelo Anthony face to face in Los Angeles. As you all should be aware of, the All-Star festivities are taking place this weekend (Friday-Sunday) in beautiful Los Angeles, CA - Staples Center to be exact. As it stands, the Knicks and Nuggets are making great progress, which does not bode well for the New Jersey Nets who at one point were considered to be the favorites to land Carmelo. If the Knicks and Nuggets keep progressing at the speed of a 17-year old boy at a Motel 6 on prom night, the Nets will be shit out of luck. Reports have stated that as of Friday (2/18/11) evening the Nets were still trying to schedule a face-to-face meeting with 'Melo'.
My thoughts are that owner, Mikhail Prokhorov's patience will be wearing thin - once again - if a meeting is not set in stone by this evening.
"No meeting's are going to be taking place this weekend."
You see, those were the words from Carmelo Anthony's mouth during Friday's TNT broadcast of the rookie-sophomore game. However, I don't need to be an NBA aficionado to tell you that if the right deal is in place for all parties involved, a meeting followed up by a deal could definitely be in place by Sunday (2/20/11). Don't kid yourself folks - money talks; even if Carmelo is saying he'd rather be in New York or Los Angeles.
The funny part is Prokhorov's spokeswoman, Ellen Pinchuk, released an update today (2/19/11) saying that Prokhorov "has not met with and has no plans to meet with Carmelo Anthony."
Once again, let's not kid ourselves with that statement. Take it for what it is - because she meant it to be literal. Yes, there is no meeting, has been no meeting, and since the Nets have been unable to schedule a face-to-face with Carmelo, that statement is in fact true. To read into it and think it's implying that it will not happen, or that the owner is no longer interested is nonsensical. As far as James Dolan (Knicks owner) is concerned, the 'The New York Daily News' has already reported that Dolan and Carmelo met on Thursday night in Los Angeles. The paper also went on to detail that parameters to hash out the trade details had been scheduled for Friday, and this has in fact (per the report) taken place.
As it stands, the Nets have set parameters for who they'd trade and currently the Knicks are hammering out the details of their parameters. What is not set in stone yet is whether or not my beloved Los Angeles Lakers would seriously consider putting some type of offer together. We know the Mavericks and Rockets have made subtle offers, which revolve around 'Melo' bascially being relegated to a rental for the season; at which point, he could leave and go elsewhere. All indications thus far is that 'Melo' wants something long term.
February 24th (3pm EST) draws near and while it could take that long, I'm here to say - it will not. Trust me, I know things. The deal will be set in stone by Sunday evening and when you wake up Monday morning, you will read that Carmelo Anthony will in fact be a New York Knick. If you do not like the Los Angeles Lakers, you need to hope I am right, because the only other scenario which would play out should he not go to New York put 'Melo' in Los Angeles - NOT - in New Jersey.
Trust me on that one. I've got sources too folks.

Make The Deal Damn It!

That's what 'Melo thought about being traded to the "Jersey Shore". I don't even think J-Wow could have lured him to New Jersey. Everybody who follows basketball knows where Carmelo and his wife "La-La" want to go:
New York!
Unfortunately for both 'Melo and his wife, New York just does not have the pieces that the Denver Nuggets want. At least, they didn't. In recent weeks, the Nuggets have discussed a trade scenario (3-team deal) which they'd consider; however, that's where things got really interesting. The Lakers, who have been struggling all season, decided to jump into the discussions. Reported today, the Lakers began preliminary talks to acquire the All-Star Forward.
So where Carmelo was once looking at going to New York and teaming up with Amare Stoudamire, and that is pretty much it; Carmelo is now being given the option to go to Los Angeles.
We all know that nothing worth attaining in life is free, so what exactly does Denver want?
Andrew Bynum
I was in favor of them getting rid of him years ago for Jason Kidd and I am even more in favor of them shipping him out for an All-Star like Carmelo Anthony now. Andrew just cannot stay healthy, and I personally am tired of hearing:
"Just wait till Bynum gets back! The Lakers are going to be unstoppable!"
He's too injury prone for my taste and if the Lakers can get someone as valuable as Carmelo (just dropped 50 points last night), they NEED to make this trade. It's a no brainer. Bynum's averaged around 11 points a game; whereas, Carmelo has averaged 28 points. Carmelo is instant offense, awesome post up game, alleviates the pressure from Kobe having to do it all, etc. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure this one out Mr. Buss. Oh, and by Mr. Buss, I mean Jerry, not the stupid son of yours who is the reason this deal has not happened yet; and the reason it may not happen at all. By lunch time, Jerry Buss' son - Jim Buss - who is the VP of player personnel, said they will NOT trade Bynum.
Really? Are you friggin' kidding me?
So as it stands folks, the Lakers may lose out on Carmelo Anthony, and in a move that would not only have helped them this season, it would have also helped their future out - big time! After all, Kobe Bryant will not be around forever and as it stands, the successor to Bryant currently is NOT on their roster. In my opinion, he's in Denver. Not in Orlando; but in Denver wearing #15.
It's times like this that I miss Jerry West. Ugh.
