Lake Highlands H.S. scored more runs in a game this week than any other Texas high school baseball team in history. Although there are conflicting reports over the score: 57-0. Or 53. Or even 54 - depending on which coach you ask (Or what website you look at...LH's has it at 54) No matter what, that is a whole lot of runs
They were playing Samuell H.S. They were no hit. Talk about rubbing salt into the wounds!
“We did everything possible,” Lake Highlands coach Jay Higgins told The Dallas Morning News. “We told the kids no matter how far you hit the ball, you only go one base at a time. . . . We didn’t steal any bases. I emptied the bench.”
Seriously, how can a team allow another team to score 54 or 53 or whatever many runs against them? I have seen some bad baseball teams play good ones in high school but the scores have never been more than maybe 20-0.
And get this, the mercy rule that is so common in High School sports was used. After a 21 run fifth for Lake Highlands.
What the Hell is the mercy rule for if you are already down 54-0 before the game ends? Isn't the mercy rule supposed to prevent this crap from happening? My God!
